This product is an icon of Extremadura’s cuisine that we have prepared in an artisanal way and with the traditional recipe based on potato, pork, Iberico pork, onion, garlic, Sweet Paprika (Pimentón de la Vera), pumpkin and Extra Virgin Olive Oil.
It is a sausage with a lot of history and of humble origin that according to some writings dates back to the XVIII century, when due to the shortage of rice and onions during the slaughter, potatoes were added instead, creating such an emblematic sausage in the region, especially in the province of Cáceres.
The ingredients of this true delicacy are a reflection of Extremadura's wealth, since it combines the essence of Extremadura’s pasture thanks to the meat of its Iberian pigs, to the products offered by its land such as paprika, tubers and pumpkin, as well as the Extra Virgin Olive Oil from our olive trees.
In the same way, it is a sausage that has been gaining popularity, especially in recent years, due to its great versatility in the kitchen and its spectacular taste, which has not gone unnoticed among the great chefs. In fact, there is a party held in its honor every year, known as 'La Pedida de la Patatera'. It is celebrated in the town of Malpartida de Cáceres, located in the province of Cáceres. This popular festival was declared a festivity of Regional Tourist Interest in 2016 and is a tradition recovered in 1985, the beginnings of which go back to the end of the 19th century. At that time, the conscripts, before the arrival of Lent with Ash Wednesday, and with the prohibition of eating meat, went around the streets asking for food and it was very common to receive this typical sausage from their neighbours.
We recommend having it spread on Rustic "Regañás" with Extra Virgin Olive Oil
, also with a touch of Thyme Honey
, or simply sliced, roasted or fried. Another option is to use a bit of it in the dough of croquettes, potato omelettes or pies.
